Earthbound Angel - Act III. by ~Prog-Moog:iconProg-Moog:

Oh, and tonight is where we would try to blend
Oh, and the ones who defend are taken to bend
Oh, and which or what end do we derive the send
Oh, and I cannot take on your anti-comprehend

But I think we’re leaving that behind
Far behind to where we first distorted the mind
It was the drowning of our white-like blind

And you wear the rhyme of perpetual questioning
And you never even talk
And you suffocate the right to even write the walk

Now help yourself to a little more than you can handle, what you can handle
And you’ll never see the light of day, no you’ll never see the light of day
However, it may seem to you now that the light is nothing but a lie we lay
Down our heads tonight only to dismiss what stays frozen in the obvious

Dismiss the obvious
What is the obvious

And the drill comes down from the stars right into your skull
And the drill cannot comprehend what stars make up control
And the time is cleansing the sky while the ceiling is a lie

Oh yes, did I mention the ceiling was a lie

We all lay in our skin tonight wondering what is what and what is right
And the night will pass on to the height of your skull in the sky that shines so bright
And your skull sings the skyline is piercing what perpetual question lies drowning
We all lay our minds in the water turning cold only to fold our missing daughter
And as the drill turns old you will call the control guaranteed to be controlling the skyline
Is drowning now in what sleep can cleanse the dirty sky while the ceiling is a lie

And breaking your arms in slumber only leaves the training dream
And all the while what you can or can’t handle is taking away your scream

And it’ll stay frozen in the sky you clean
And it’ll stay frozen in the sky you clean

And all the while what you can or can’t handle is taking away your light of day
But that’s okay because the light of day never took away the drill in your skull today

Oh yes, did I mention the ceiling was a lie

The third section from my lyrical series, 'Earthbound Angel'.
This section is maybe the longest, and most word-intense section of the series.

Do not think that it is all just random repetition.
Each line, while perplexing, actually does serve a purpose.
However, holes may only be filled as the series continues...

Then again, maybe not.

Cool poem, some effective imagery. There are bits I don't understand but its still good1
Also, is this whole "Earthbound Angel" anything to do with Satan, or Lucifer?
:iconprog-moog:
Not really, but then again, maybe. The lyrics series' title is a reference to Sonic The Hedgehog 3/ Sonic & Knuckles actually, but in a jocular manner. The island on Sonic 3 was called 'Angel Island', and it was forced out of the sky because the chaos emeralds were scattered away from the master emerald shrine, hence 'Earthbound Angel'. Now, my lyrics have nothing to do with that story, but the album I am writing these lyrics for have a similar setup to Sonic 3 & Knuckles. The lyrics themselves though are journal entries from a girl who lives at a mental institute because she is considered mentally unstable. She became insane trying to find out if God exists or not and these journal entries are her going through that experience while being considered insane by the people around her. So in this manner, the name of the lyrics series is quite fitting because she is a child of God who is right now 'Earthbound' or in this sense 'skeptical'. Also, this will help explain why the lyrics style is so obscure.

For a little heads up:
The sequel to this lyrics series is called 'Ascension ad Infinitum', which means 'Going up into infinity'... ;)

Hmm interesting...
I was thinking because the traditional story of Lucifer is that he was an angel cast down from heaven to Earth (or Hell). That classic image of a falling angel gets used in gothic or satanic lyrics quite often, and its pretty powerful both literally and metaphorically.

Maybe the Angel Island thing in Sonic was a subtle referance to Satan? hmmmmmm.

Also, the name Lucifer means "bringer of light", and he is also sometimes known as the Son of the Morning, or the Morningstar (venus), which makes it kinda cool when you mention "the light of day".

I just read it again, and I must say again that I like it lol

Also I still think its a bit AFI-esque, more like their older stuff.......

I think it's more in the vein of Cedric Bixler-Zavala (the lyrics writer for The Mars Volta), but overall it is my own style I've developed. But thanks for following along with the series, your input is great. But yeah, Satan isn't really what it is about, but because the girl is battling with finding a faith, Satan would be getting in the way, so you are correct on some of the references.

THE CEILING IS A LIE. THE CEILING IS A LIE. THE CEILING IS A LIE. THE CEILING IS A LIE. THE CEILING IS A LIE. THE CEILING IS A LIE. THE CEILING IS A LIE. THE CEILING IS A LIE. :+fav:
